近日，美国科学院院士、杜克大学Drew Shindell教授应邀做客环境研究院第十八期“山海致青”论坛并作学术报告。报告由环境研究院张玉强教授主持，来自环境研究院、环境科学与工程学院和海洋研究院等50多位师生参加活动。

Drew Shindell教授以“The Case for Urgent Action on Super Pollutants to Mitigate the Climate Crisis”为题，深入阐述了“超级污染物”（如甲烷、氧化亚氮和氟利昂等）在全球变暖和空气质量恶化中的关键作用。他表示，虽然这些“超级污染物”在大气中的浓度远低于二氧化碳，但其单位质量的温室效应比二氧化碳更强大，对气候系统的影响不容忽视。当前全球减排进展远不足以实现世界卫生组织的空气质量目标，通过减少“超级污染物”排放，并与深度脱碳协同推进，可在2030年前实现净降温效应，并在2030至2050年间将全球变暖率减少约50%，其中近一半减缓效应来源于甲烷控制。

在交流环节中，大家就自己的研究兴趣以及关注热点与Shindell教授进行交流。本院学生分别就冰河纪和气候变化的关系、垃圾填埋对空气质量和气候变化的影响、如何探讨气候变化和微生物的相互作用等问题提出了疑问，来自于海洋研究院的研究生提出如何利用天然食物，比如海藻，来减少畜牧业中的甲烷排放等问题。本次论坛促进了学生对气候变化方面研究的认知。

Dr. Drew Shindell is the Nicholas Professor of Earth Science at Duke University, with a research focus on climate change, air quality, and the intersection of science and policy. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from UC Berkeley and a Ph.D. in Physics from Stony Brook University. With over 300 peer-reviewed publications and more than 100,000 citations, Dr. Shindell is a highly regarded expert in his field. He was a Coordinating Lead Author on the 2013 Fifth Assessment Report of the IPCC and on the 2018 IPCC Special Report on 1.5°C. He has been honored by institutions such as Scientific American, NASA, NSF, and the EPA and is a fellow of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). In 2023, he was elected to the U.S. National Academy ofSciences, recognizing his significant contributions to climate science.
